How soft is Nature's calm repose 已沉沉睡去的大自然显得多麽柔情
When ev'ning skies their cool dews weep: 夜空下冰冷的露珠往下落：
The gentlest wind more gently blows, 柔和的风儿轻轻地吹拂，
As if to soothe her in her sleep! 仿佛是想让她睡得安稳！
The gay morn breaks, 欢乐清晨天已破晓，
Mists roll away, 雾也都散开，
All Nature awakes 大自然苏醒
To glorious day. 迎来美好的一天。
In my breast alone 在我孤独的心中
Dark shadows remain; 阴影仍然留存；
The peace it has known 它所知晓的平和安宁

查尔斯﹒狄更斯（1812-1870）是19世纪英国最杰出的文学家之一。他生活在19世纪中叶英国工业革命兴起的时期。耳闻目睹或亲身经历英国社会的种种弊端和人性的弱点，他以写实笔法揭露出来。
原诗抑扬格为主，原诗三节，前两节每节四行。第三节有八行。原诗共有十六行，前两节每行四音步。最后一节每行为二音步。原诗每节韵式为 abab,,cdcd,,efefghgh 韵脚错落有致，避免了整齐划一的韵式所造成的单调。
