O, Falmouth is a fine town with ships in the bay,
And I wish from my heart it's there I was to-day;
I wish from my heart I was far away from here,
Sitting in my parlour and talking to my dear.
For it's home, dearie, home--it's home I want to be.
Our topsails are hoisted, and we'll away to sea.
O, the oak and the ash and the bonnie birken tree
They're all growing green in the old countrie.

威廉•欧内斯特•亨利1849年8月23日出生于苏格兰格罗切斯特，并曾就读于格罗切斯特语法学校。从童年起，他就遭受肺结核疾病的折磨，疾病最终迫使他的一只脚被截肢。他的诗歌”医院随笔”-------那些生动的自由诗的早期形式纪录下了他在爱丁堡的医院度过的时光，诗歌轮廓鲜明地带有医院病房中的那种特有的景象，感觉，甚至充斥着病房的气味。尽管（或可能的，因为）他的健康状况还在持续地恶化，亨利从来没有停止过对力量和活力，勇气以及和从强劲的诗歌”伦敦独奏”（1892）和诗歌”山楂树和薰衣草” （1901）中的色彩明快诗句中折射出来的胜利的信念的崇拜。
